What is Canadian Tire?

What is the Triangle Rewards Program?

Canadian Tire is an iconic Canadian brand and the company’s Canadian Tire Money was one of Canada’s most beloved loyalty programs. To appeal to a younger and more-digitally minded demographic, Canadian Tire launched a new loyalty program in 2018 called Triangle Rewards, with paper CT Money discontinued after 2020.

The Triangle Rewards program allows members to collect and redeem Canadian Tire Money (also known as CT Money) online and in-store at Canadian Tire and a variety of other retailers, or when making a purchase with a Triangle Mastercard credit card (Canadian Tire offers 3 unique cards, more on them below).

Who can benefit?

Who can benefit most from the Triangle Rewards Program?

Canadian Tire Triangle Rewards might be fairly new, but Canadian Tire Money is a currency with a long history of satisfied customers. The Triangle Rewards program is ideal for anyone who does a majority of their weekly spending with Canadian Tire brands, such as commuters who get their gas at Gas+. Additionally, parents with kids in sports is likely to find considerable value with Triangle Rewards, especially given the huge number of sports brands under the CT umbrella. The same thing goes for people who frequently shop at Canadian Tire department stores.

The program isn't right for everyone, however. Canadian Tire doesn't have a huge grocery presence, with only snacks and beverages for sale. This limitation means the program isn't ideal if you are looking to maximize grocery savings, although given the program's free nature, it's hardly a major concern.

Triangle Rewards tiers

Triangle Rewards tiers

Canadian Tire Triangle Rewards

The Triangle Rewards program consists of two tiers: a free tier and a premium version. The first tier is what most Canadians think of when you imagine Triangle Rewards; that is, it's what you get when you sign up for free at Canadian Tire or through the website or mobile app. The base tier of CT Triangle Rewards is free to join and offers a 0.4% everyday rewards base earn on purchases with Canadian Tire companies.

Canadian Tire Triangle Select

Canadian Tire introduced a premium tier to its Triangle Rewards in 2023. Canadian Tire Triangle Select is a $89 per year tier that provides enhanced cash back on Canadian Tire purchases, in-store “brand boosts” on select names in select categories like apparel, home and outdoor living, and a gift card welcome bonus.

  • Triangle Select features

    +

Welcome gift: Choose a $50 gift card from Canadian Tire, Sport Chek or Mark’s.

Everyday in-store bonus: Get 10x bonus CT Money on almost any purchase you make at Canadian Tire brands.

In-store brand booster: Get 20x bonus CT Money on select brands in key categories (Apparel: Denver Hayes, FWD, Helly Hansen, Ripzone and Shamhala; Automotive: MotoMaster, SIMONZ, SIMONZ PLATINUM; Sports and recreation: Sherwood, Woods; Tools and hardware: Mastercraft, MAXIMUM; Outdoor living: Golfgreen, Vermont Castings); Home: CANVAS, FRANK, PADERNO, Petco, Premier, Type A, Vida).

Annual in-store top-up: Earn 20x bonus CT Money when shopping in-store with CT brands.

Shipping: Free shipping on orders with Canadian Tire brands (up to $20 in shipping fees per order); or receive a shipping fee reimbursement on your first 5 Canadian Tire ship-to-home purchases (up to $12 in shipping fees per order).

Triangle Select members with a CT Triangle Mastercard stand to earn even more rewards. According to the bank, almost 70% of Select members had one of Canadian Tire's credit cards, so you know it's good.

Triangle Select more than pays for itself with the additional points, welcome gift, and discounts tabulated, but it's not for everyone. If you only shop with CT brands periodically, you might not find value in the elite tier. In these instances, it's simpler (and more rewarding) to get a Canadian Tire Financial credit card, especially given the lack of an annual fee, enhanced earning rates, and bonuses.

Canadian Tire is one of Canada's most trusted brands, according to Ledger, and it's easy to see why. The Triangle Rewards program is a good program but only if you frequently shop at Canadian Tire or other participating retailers. The Triangle credit cards certainly help boost earnings at Canadian Tire stores and eligible retailers but don’t offer as many rewards as other of the best credit cards or rewards programs. Still, if you are a Canadian Tire regular Triangle Rewards is worth checking out.
