Key benefits of the PC World Elite Mastercard
The PC World Elite Mastercard stands out as a no-annual-fee option that delivers premium rewards for everyday spending. Beyond its robust earning structure, this card offers comprehensive protections including purchase assurance, extended warranty coverage, and mobile device insurance and more.
Cardholders earn an impressive 30 PC Optimum points per dollar at Loblaws banner stores—equivalent to a 3% return—and an even higher 45 points per dollar at Shoppers Drug Mart, representing a 4.5% cash back value. When filling up at Esso and Mobil stations, you'll collect 30 points per litre, while all other purchases earn a solid 10 points per dollar (1% return).
PC® World Elite Mastercard® insurance coverage
While it’s missing more extensive insurance coverage you might get with a rewards credit card that charges an annual fee, the PC® World Elite Mastercard® does include a few valuable protections:
Insurance | Coverage amount |
---|---|
Extended warranty | 1 year |
Purchase protection | 90 days |
Emergency medical coverage | 10 days (under 65) |
Car rental insurance | $65,000 coverage for up to 31 consecutive days |
If you’re looking for a credit card with a more comprehensive suite of protections, check out our list of credit cards with great travel insurance.
In reviewing various online discussions regarding the PC World Elite Mastercard, it’s clear that people appreciate that the card has no annual fee. In fact, many users in this Reddit thread compare the World Elite favourably to the recently launched PC Insiders World Elite Mastercard, which offers slightly higher earn rates but charges a $120 annual fee. According to one user, the (PC Insiders card) “is a mediocre card and not worth the annual fee.” Another user replied, “I use a PC World Elite for my grocery shopping and was pretty disappointed when I saw this offer (from the PC Insider’s World Elite card).”
Other commenters have noted that the PC World Elite Mastercard is worthwhile if you shop at Loblaws partner stores, but if not, other cards are better. For example, the CIBC Costco Mastercard is a better option for loyal Costco shoppers. Ultimately, the best card depends on where you do most of your grocery shopping.
I think it's pretty amazing for a no fee card if you shop at their stores. 3% at the grocery stores, 3c per litre off at Esso and 4.5% off Shoppers are all really great. My parents have it since they primarily use No Frills for grocery and they love it

The BMO CashBack Mastercard provides a generous 3% (up to a monthly max of $500) cash back on groceries. When it comes to grocery spending, it offers more flexibility than the PC World Elite because cardholders are not tied to Loblaws and its partner stores to access the higher earn rate. But there’s a catch. The BMO card's grocery category cash back is capped . Once you exceed the cap, the rate drops to 0.5%, which is not competitive.
The PC World Elite doesn’t place a spending cap on groceries. Also, while the PC World Elite’s insurance coverage is limited, it offers more than the BMO CashBack Mastercard, which does not include any travel-related insurance coverage.

The Tangerine Money Back Card is a no annual fee cash back Mastercard from one of Canada’s leading digital banks. It stands out for its generous welcome bonus. It also offers more reward flexibility than the PC World Elite. You can 2% back on two categories of your choice. Get a Tangerine Savings account and add a third 2% cash back category.
Of course, the cash back rate is lower than PC World Elite’s highest earn rates. The Tangerine Money Back does not offer any travel insurance coverage. If you spend regularly at Loblaws, Shopper’s Drug Mart, and their partner stores, the PC World Elite is likely your best bet. If you prefer reward flexibility and don’t need any insurance coverage, you may want to consider the Tangerine Money Back.
