Quick overview of CIBC Dividend® Visa Infinite* Card

When choosing your daily spending cash back credit card, it pays to read the fine print. These cards are notorious for promising high cash back rates, then hiding their sneaky stipulations within the too-tiny-to-read part of the agreement.

After whipping out my magnifying glass, however, I’m happy to report the CIBC Dividend Visa Infinite is a fantastic choice for your go-to cash back card.

It's reasonable to be suspicious at first (even the card art looks ominous!). But it offers an ample 4% cash back for grocery stores and gas, plus 2% for transportation, dining and recurring payments. It’s true that if you spend over $20,000 annually in these categories (or $80,000 overall), you will be bumped down to the 1% cash back rate. But if your grocery bill is that high, you may be in the market for a swankier card, anyway.

Where this card falls short is travel insurance — which makes sense. The pro-move is to use the CIBC Dividend Visa Infinite Card for daily spending and find a separate credit card for travel purchases.

Who’s the CIBC Dividend® Visa Infinite* Card Card for?

Perhaps unexpectedly, the CIBC Dividend Visa Infinite Card is perfect for the food-motivated individual. It’s one of the rare cards that offers an elevated cash back bonus on both grocery stores and dining. So, if (like me) you want a credit card for both your home chef creations and your fancy date nights — this card is made for you.

How to earn cash back on the CIBC Dividend® Visa Infinite* Card

Earning cash back on this card is simple: all you have to do is eat and drive (foodie road trip, anyone?). Keep this card at the front of your wallet for your weekly grocery store trips and gas station visits to get that generous 4% cash back bonus.

While not as lucrative, the 2% cash back on dining, transportation and recurring payments is still competitive. So, you can still feel good ordering takeout on those too-tired-to-cook nights, while streaming your favourite trashy Netflix reality show.

The elevated cash back rates apply up to $20,000 in purchases in these bonus categories, annually — after that it’s back to a 1% cash back. Not bad, all things considered.

How to redeem name of points on the CIBC Dividend® Visa Infinite* Card

This card allows you to redeem your cash back rewards any time of the year.

You can do that by accessing CIBC online banking or the mobile app, and clicking on the card to redeem your accumulated rewards. After that, your cash back rewards will show up as a credit on your statement.

The catch? You need to have accumulated at least $25 in cash back rewards to redeem.

For the truly lazy (clicking a few buttons is a lot of work!), you can also wait until your January statement each year — after which, the cash back rewards will be automatically redeemed as a statement credit.

What people have to say about this card

CIBC Dividend Visa Infinite is also great particularly if you drive a lot as it works with Journie Rewards to save on gas.

Academic-Lead-5771

The online community raved about this card’s compatibility with Journie rewards — a program that allows you to save three cents per litre at participating Pioneer, Fas Gas, Ultramar and Chevron gas stations (plus an additional seven cents/litre each time you earn 300 Journie points).

While not a “make or break” benefit, it’s a nice addition that cements the CIBC Dividend Visa Infinite as a great daily spending card.
