RBC moi: Is it time to ditch AIR MILES?

The moi Programme is Metro's soon-to-be-launched rewards program. It aims to reward people who grocery shop at Metro and its affiliate stores.

While we adhere to strict editorial guidelines, partners on this page may provide us earnings.

RBC Moi is a loyalty program that allows customers to earn points for purchases at Metro, Food Basics, and other stores.

There’s a new rewards game in town, which may be perfect for you – depending on where you do most of your grocery shopping.

It hasn’t launched in Ontario yet, so we’ll give you a sneak peek of everything you need to know.

The exciting news is that, as a new program, you can expect it to be competitive as it tries to drum up some hype.

The not-so-exciting news is that it’s replacing a well-known rewards program at Metro grocery stores you may already know and love (Air Miles). However, the new program brings a host of potential benefits that might just win you over.

So, let’s dig into the new moi Rewards – which, as you might know, means “me” in French. Which leads us to believe this program is all about me.

Or, you, I guess.

How the moi program works and who it’s for

The moi Programme is Metro's soon-to-be-launched rewards program. It aims to—you guessed it—reward people who grocery shop at Metro and its affiliate stores, including Super C, Brunet, Premiere Maison and Jean Coutu.

Here's how the program works: You earn one point for every dollar you spend at participating stores. But that's not all. It also provides you with customized coupons and offers tailored to your unique shopping habits, which you can use for groceries, beauty products and health products.

How do I earn points?

You’ll earn one point for every dollar spent and a $4 reward for every 500 points earned. You can redeem points whenever you like, spending them on your favourite products in-store.

New users will earn 250 points as a welcome bonus, which can be uploaded to your moi card and will be given upon enrollment.

As an extra cherry on top, you can also earn 10,000 bonus points if you also sign up for a moi RBC Visa card – more on that below.

How do I redeem moi points?

Redemption flexibility and shops

Points never expire and they can be redeemed any time at checkout at nearly 900 Metro, Super C, Brunet and Première Moisson stores in Quebec and Jean Coutu stores in Quebec, Ontario and New Brunswick.

Another thing to note is that later this year, Ontario Metro and Food Basics stores will be joining the program – so, if you’re in Ontario, you might want to sign up before then.

How much are moi points worth?

One hundred and twenty-five moi points are worth $1.

With the moi program, you’ll earn one point for every dollar spent.

How much is 1,000 my points worth?

One thousand moi points are worth $8.

Additional benefits of the moi rewards program

The moi reward program isn’t all about earning points on purchases. You’ll also get personalized coupons and weekly offers to earn additional points.

PC Optimum

The PC Optimum rewards program may be Canada's most popular retailer-specific program.

It’s used by Loblaws companies, including Loblaws, No Frills and Shoppers Drug Mart.

Like moi, customers earn points when shopping at those stores and can redeem those points directly at checkout. It also provides personalized offers based on your shopping habits.

While moi offers one point for every dollar spent, PC Optimum users earn 15 points for every dollar at Shoppers Drug Mart and 10 points per litre of fuel and Esso and Mobil gas stations.

In addition to those regular purchases, you can also earn points through special offers at other stores, including Loblaws, Joe Fresh, No Frills, Real Canadian Superstore, Valu-Mart and several others.

Scene Rewards

Another popular rewards program, Scene members earn one point for every $2 spent on participating grocery stores, including Sobeys, Safeway, Foodland, FreshCo. and IGA.

They also earn five points for every dollar spent at Cineplex; three points for every dollar spent at Expedia; 50 points for every $50 spent at Home Hardware; one point for every $3 spent at Harvey’s, Swiss Chalet, East Side Mario’s, Montana’s BBQ & Bar, Bier Market and Kelsey’s Original Roadhouse; and one point for every $1 spent at The Rec Room and Playdium.

That’s a lot of options to rack up points. Unlike the moi program, which only allows points redemption in participating stores, Scene points can be redeemed at participating grocery stores, at movie theatres and for various travel, shopping and entertainment options.
